Montreal .NET Community – Silverlight 2 for .NET developers

On Monday, September 9 2008, I assist at the very first assembly of the Montreal .NET Community for the 2008-2009 seasons. It was a very interesting evening. We had a fantastic presentation from Dominic Sévigny about Silverlight 2.0. The content was clear enough and the demo was awesome. And don’t think I’m saying that because Dominic is my boss at RunAtServer Consulting! Instead of just showing a few basic demos that we all can find over the internet, he talks about a real Silverlight project. In fact, he shows the very first Silverlight project done by RunAtServer just the week before. And don’t forget that at that time, we were using Silverlight Beta 2… the final release of Silverlight 2 was not available yet. He talks about his own experience with that project from a developer stand point and from the designer view. He explains how designers will have to step over the barrier of designing and will have to learn, or at least understand, the XAML and the event handling model implemented in Silverlight. The biggest challenge for developers will be to learn XAML and to be a little bit more artistic!!!

Overall, it’s awesome what we can do with Silverlight, it’s just that it will take a lot of time and efforts learn and to be more than just familiar with XAML and the Silverlight framework.

For those of you that would like to get training on Silverlight check out the Silverlight Tour at www.silverlight-tour.com to find out when the Silverlight Tour will stop in Montreal or in a city near you.

Best regards,

Bruno
