Now that we have turned the page on 2008, let’s begin the New Year with optimism and a lot of challenges. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to read, not only my so few articles, but all the RunAtServer team blogs. And let’s hope that I will be able to post new articles on a regular basis…

On November 3rd, I participate to the Speaker Idol with Louis-Philippe Pinsonneault, my co-worker and 5 other participants. The Speaker Idol was hosted by the Montreal .NET Community in collaboration with
. The main objective was to give the possibility to everyone who wishes to become a presenter to give their very first presentation in front of a small group of people.
I really enjoy my experience at the Speaker Idol. I was there to live the experience of giving a presentation in front of a group because this is something I want to do in the future. All presenters were very interesting and all subjects were totally different. I did a presentation on how to create simple Silverlight animation using Microsoft Expression Blend. At the beginning of my presentation, I was really nervous but after the first 30 seconds, I felt really good in front of the group. At first, I thought that the 10 minutes allowed to present our subject was far enough. But what a surprised when I figure out that the 10 minutes was over and I didn’t have the time to do even half of my sample demo!!!
At the end, I finish second, just behind Jean-Sebastien Tougas the big winner. I’m really proud of what I did. I had really good tips and comments from the 3 judges and it will definitely help me in the future.
I want to thanks all presenters that participate at the Speaker Idol because it takes a lot of courage to do presentation in front of a group of people and everyone did a great job at it. Also, I want to thanks Ineta and the Montreal .NET Community for giving a first chance to people like me of being a presenter. Finally, I would like to thanks all people that came to that wonderful evening because without you, event like this would never happened to Montreal!!!
You can download my PowerPoint presentation and the sample solution here. I also recommend you to see Louis-Philippe’s blog here to know more about his own experience at the Speaker Idol.
So congratulation to Jean-Sebastien for your great presentation and I wish this event will happened again in the future so other people like me will have the opportunity to give a presentation to the .NET Community groups!!!
Best regards,
Bruno
On Monday, September 9 2008, I assist at the very first assembly of the Montreal .NET Community for the 2008-2009 seasons. It was a very interesting evening. We had a fantastic presentation from Dominic Sévigny about Silverlight 2.0. The content was clear enough and the demo was awesome. And don’t think I’m saying that because Dominic is my boss at RunAtServer Consulting! Instead of just showing a few basic demos that we all can find over the internet, he talks about a real Silverlight project. In fact, he shows the very first Silverlight project done by RunAtServer just the week before. And don’t forget that at that time, we were using Silverlight Beta 2… the final release of Silverlight 2 was not available yet. He talks about his own experience with that project from a developer stand point and from the designer view. He explains how designers will have to step over the barrier of designing and will have to learn, or at least understand, the XAML and the event handling model implemented in Silverlight. The biggest challenge for developers will be to learn XAML and to be a little bit more artistic!!!
Overall, it’s awesome what we can do with Silverlight, it’s just that it will take a lot of time and efforts learn and to be more than just familiar with XAML and the Silverlight framework.
For those of you that would like to get training on Silverlight check out the Silverlight Tour at www.silverlight-tour.com to find out when the Silverlight Tour will stop in Montreal or in a city near you.
Best regards,
Bruno
Hello everyone.
My name is Bruno Pelletier and I lived in the great Montreal (QC) region. I’m currently working at RunAtServer Consulting as a senior developer. I join the RunAtServer Consulting team in last April and I want to take that opportunity to thanks Dominic and Laurent.
I started my career as an analyst programmer for a company in the supply chains industry. I was developing windows application with VB6 and web sites with classic ASP. I start programming with Microsoft .NET Framework in 2002 and since then, I cannot live without it!!!
I got my first Microsoft Certification last August (MCTS Web Applications) and I’m currently looking to get more Microsoft certification.
This blog is related to Microsoft .NET technologies and more specifically ASP.NET, AJAX and Silverlight. As a member of the Montreal .NET Community, formerly known has the GUVSM (Groupe d’Usagers Visual Studio Montréal), I will occasionally give a brief resume and comments about the meeting that I will attend. I also invite you to visit the Montreal .NET Community web site www.dotnetmontreal.com to have more information about the group and for upcoming meetings. I will also discuss about events that I will participate like the DevTeach, Tech-Ed and others.
Don’t hesitate to send me feedback and comments about this blog. We’d love getting your feedback about and let us know what you want to see discussed in the future.
And again, thanks to Dominic and Laurent for giving me the opportunity to join the RunAtServer team!!
