Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and Silverlight 2 beta 2

Visual Studio 2008 SP1 is available and as always you might wonder if your Silverlight 2 projects will work after this update!
Good news Silverlight Tools Beta 2 has been updated to support Visual Studio 2008 SP1!

Beware that some pre-release programs and updates (like Microsoft Silverlight Tools Beta 1) will prevent Visual Studio 2008 SP1 from installing successfully.

So here are the steps:

  1. Install Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack Preparation Tool
  2. Install Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
  3. Install Microsoft Silverlight Tools Beta 2 for Visual Studio 2008

Also beware that the updated Silverlight library for ADO.NET Data Services is not compatible with the RTM of .NET 3.5 SP1's version of ADO.NET Data Services. [source: VS 2008 SP1 RTM + Silverlight 2 Beta 2 == No ADO.NET Data Services]

So if you want to use ADO.NET Data Services with Silverlight, wait for Silverlight 2 RTM before installing VS2008 SP1!
